“The first principle [of science] is that you must not fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool.” Richard P. Feynman This practical guide will teach you how to use Blind Analysis with Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology, so you can avoid fooling yourself. Written for engineers and scientists who are familiar with Design of Experiments and JMP software, it is the first to cover the Blind Analysis aspect of DOE, which prevents the inadvertent bias—even your own—that can sometimes crop up in data analysis. Those new to the techniques will appreciate the brief introduction to Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology. You can then dive into the technical details behind Blind Analysis, including Triple Blind Studies. Three thorough examples complete the lesson, clearly demonstrating how to incorporate Blind Analysis into DOE/RSM, using the JMP software package. Support materials are available online with data for the JMP examples, examples worked in Minitab, and data for the Minitab examples. Blind Analysis in Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology will prepare you to apply its powerful techniques to your work right away. Human nature is geared toward finding what we are looking for, instead of what’s actually there. Add Blind Analysis to your toolbox, and you’ll avoid fooling yourself, in your experiments.
Blind Analysis for Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology William Kappele
Bill writes as well as he teaches, explaining complex ideas in easy to follow steps. It is well understood the importance of double-blind experiments in removing unintentional bias from patients and doctors in clinical trials. In "Blind Analysis for Design of Experiments...", Bill explains the value of having the data reviewer also being blinded and how to use the power of JMP to accomplish this goal. A must read for anyone who conducts or analyzes experiments.Product details

Blind Analysis for Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology William Kappele Reviews
Bill Kappele is a master when it comes to Design of Experiments. We are fortunate that he has finally written a book on the subject with emphasis on preventing confirmation bias. I highly recommend this book for all experimenters.
Confirmation bias is the tendency to pay attention only to data that supports our point of view and ignore everything else. Confirmation bias is a powerful human tendency, and we must always be on guard against its influence. Fortunately, Bill Kappele gives researchers a powerful tool to prevent unconscious bias from influencing the analysis of our experiments. Bill’s book walks the reader through numerous examples to demonstrate the use of blind analysis with Design of Experiments (DOE) and Response Surface Methodology. Bill also makes the process simple by providing Add-Ins for JMP software that take care of the details of conducting a blind analysis. I highly recommend this book for all DOE practitioners.
